Resting place of Ruhiyyih Khanum, wife of Shoghi Effendi, Guardian of the Bahá’ί Faith and grandson of Abdu’l Bahá. Abdu’l Bahá named him the Guardian (head) of the Faith in His will and testament. Shoghi Effendi married a Canadian Bahá’ί named Mary Maxwell, whose father William Sutherland Maxwell (a noted architect) designed the Shrine of the Báb. Mary Maxwell was then named Ruhiyyih Khanum upon her marriage to Shoghi Effendi. “Khanum” is a title similar to “Lady” in English and “Effendi” is also a title similar to “Mr.”
