The Seat of the Universal House of Justice – on the Arc, in the shadow of the Shrine of the Báb, Haifa. The Universal House of Justice (9 male Bahá’ίs elected every 5 years by the worldwide Bahá’ί community) is the spiritual and administrative head of the Bahá’ί Faith since 1963 when it was first elected. As individuals they have no authority, but as a body, they make decisions which are guided by God and are under the protection of Bahá’u’lláh – so the worldwide Bahá’ί community trusts its decisions and guidance. The Seat is where they meet and there are also other offices here. The Arc consists of 3 buildings (the International Teaching Centre, the Seat of the Universal House of Justice and the Centre for the Study of the Sacred Texts – the Seat of the House of Justice is at the apex of the Arc). The buildings are in an arc formation so they all face Akká and the Shrine of Bahá’u’lláh – which is across the Bay of Haifa. The Greek style of architecture was chosen because it is classic and won’t go out of style, also it creates a peaceful and dignified atmosphere.
